1974 Fender Strat LH
Just in, we have this absolute gem of an early 70’s Strat and yes … it’s LEFT HAND DRIVE!!
These guitars are a personal favourite of mine featuring that large 70’s headstock with the famous bullet truss rod.
This guitar is in absolutely great condition and it’s pretty clear to see it’s been enjoyed throughout its life!
A bit of background on the history of the guitar.
The guitar was previously owned by the late Mik (Mick) Whitlock (1949-1996).
Mik started his career with bands in Bournemouth, then formed The Accused and had a lot of local and national success in the early ‘70’s. He then later formed Prima Voice and was one of the first bands to be offered coverage on MTV in New York. Regularly playing at The Rock Garden in Covent Garden, the band was highly acclaimed in the NME (New Musical Express) and Melody Maker! He toured worldwide with the guitar, primarily in Russia (quite something at that time behind the Iron Curtain) where Prima Voice sold over 1 million singles. Controversially two tours in South Africa during apartheid era, many tours of Germany, Scandinavia and Italy, where he had a No.1 with the single Kings and Queens. Prima Voice had a big following and singles were released worldwide, including New Zealand, Canada, Europe, South Africa….
He played with Hawkwind, Black Sabath, Greg Lake (ELP), Noddy Holder (Slade), Showaddywaddy and did a lot of session work with other well established bands of that time. He particularly retained strong friendships with Lemmy (Motor Head/Hawkwind), Denny Laine (Moody Blues, Wings), Robert Fripp (King Crimson),and Ozzy/Sharon Osbourne.
The guitar has had an amazing life travelling all around the world and that’s reflected in the way that it feels when you pick this thing up.
